Sigma APO 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM review by Stockholmviews.com, page 8

The sigma APO 150-500mm DG OS and slide-film

I have shoot a roll of slide-film and the results can be seen below.
Results will also give you a hint of what to expect of the 150-500mm os
with full frame and FX sized sensor equiped DSLR's
Plus you will also get a version of the never ending "discussion subject" -
film vs digital :0)

Kodak E100VS
Film used for test Kodak E100VS
Slidefilm shot on a Nikon F100 with the Sigma 150-500mm OS

Framing @ 500mm with the Nikon F100 and Sigma 150-500mm OS

Framing for OS test

Framing with the same lens and focal length on the DX sensor equipped
Nikon D200 resulting in a x1.5 magnification of focal length and equals a focal length of about 750mm on a FX or film camera.

Sigma 150-500mm OS with film

100% crop from a 4000px/in scan (Canon Canoscan FS4000US)
further sharpening did not extract more detail it just highlighted
more of the film grain. F8 1/320s @ 500mm on tripod

Noise ninja treated image

Same settings as image above + a run true Noise Ninja helped to remove
some noise and then allowed the image to be sharpen a bit more.
Never the less, no more actual detail could be extracted.

This one shot with the Nikon D200 and the 150-500 @ f8 1/45s @500mm on tripod
make me feel that I will never go back and shoot 35mm film any more!

The image abow is a 100% crop
note how close it matches the 4000px/in scan in size :0)

Sigma 150-500mm @ F11 and 500mm on Full frame

Again the Nikon F100 100 framing @ 500mm F11 1/160 slight
vignetting (black corners) can be spotted here but nothing extreme.

Film F8 @500mm on tripod
100% crop of 400px/in scan

Nikon D200 100% crop of F8 @ 500mm image.

Sigma 150-500mm @ 150mm F11

Again @ F11 but now set to 150mm, vignetting still within limit for me :0)

What about the OS function and the Nikon F100 then?
Well it works as advertised on this old dinosaur to!

My conclusion of this part of the review is that I will stop shooting 135 film
I will still continue to use 120 film for my home built 6x17 camera just because of the fact that there is no digital panorama camera in reach for
my budget yet (The Seitz 6x17 is a bit over my budget).
