Glassless scanning with the Canon canoscan 8800F!

Ok! I guess that you already found out that this is not a regular
scanner review :0)
This step of the review will carry the mark DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME :0)

This is the cheepskate version of the MicroteK Artixscan M1 for glassless flatbed scanning :0)

Anyhow during the review I found out that best focus of this scanner
is right on the glass bed, so up to now I have had the film mounted with
tape directly on the glass!

So i thought maybe best focus is even closer, I better check it out :0)
The following test will let you know.

I disassembled the scanner and mounted the film on the underside of the
glass, hereby it came about 1mm closer than contact mounted on top of
the glass

Film, contact mounted with tape on top of the
glass bed of the scanner USM=A400 R2,1 T0
Film, contact mounted with tape at the under side
of the glass bed "Glass less" USM=A400 R2,1 T0

Film, contact mounted with tape on top of the
glass bed of the scanner USM=A400 R2,1 T0
Film, contact mounted with tape at the under side
of the glass bed "Glass less" USM=A400 R2,1 T0
Conclusion
In the case of this particular scanner (It might be different with your 8800F due to fabrication tolerances)
I found focus to be
best if film was contact mounted to the bottom of the scanner glass bed.
I also tried to move the film even closer (away from de glass at the under side) but then it started
to lose focus again!

Anyhow the improvement was just slight and I cant 't say it was worth all the hassle :0)
