Canon 8800F review Introduction
|
UPDATE!
Before you buy this scanner, please be aware that there is a new and probably better
rated scanner from Canon on the shelves today.
The CanoScan 9000F is available now!
My Canon CanoScan 9000F review can be found here!
However if you are one of those Linux users the 8800 is still the one to get if you
like to be sure to be able to use it.
The linux drivers have now been released and fully suports the Canon Canoscan 8800F
This also will let you use Gimp under Linux and the scanner frontend that comes whit
this great opensource image editor.

I will not spend my time on tech specs or "what's in the box" related info.
You can get that from Canon directly [ Here ]
But in short, Canon 8800F is a flat bed scanner with film scanning facility's.
And this scanner uses a new LED light source for the film scan facility.
I will not dig in to reflective (Paper) scanning as any scanner would
be able to output high quality in this area, so I would once again waist
your and my time by review reflective scanning quality.

I have 3 other canon scanners on hand for comparison.
The Canon Canoscan 8600F flatbed/film scanner.
The Canon Canoscan FS4000 film scanner.
The Canon Canoscan 9950F flatbed/film scanner.

I also have Vuescan 8.4.47 software and will use it along with
Canon Scangear CS V.13.0.0
to reveal the maximum quality/resolution to get from this scanner.
full resolution scans of the building above is available for download.
You find download links further down on this page for you to analyze
and make your own judgments. |

Scanning slide film (what I rely care about)

|
|
|
The test slide, house erection in Beirut with cranes and everything :0)
Velvia 100F 35mm slide (abused but this does not care in this review)
Red squares are crop positions for compared/analyzed areas.
I use to share my high resolution canon 8800 test scans!
